Social and Behavior Change Communication
Social and Behavior Change Communications (SBCC) are targeted campaigns that are focused on a specific segment of the population. These campaigns are based on in-depth research of the target audience - including which messages they find most impactful and which messengers they are most likely to listen to, and which interventions are most meaningful to them.
In this way, SBCC campaigns are human-centered. They are tailored and tested to increase their likelihood of success. Research has shown that they are more effective than awareness-raising campaigns in changing people’s behavior. They are particularly effective when dealing with a group of people who is already aware that what they are doing violates laws or is damaging to the environment.
